The $11 Billion Industry

Do you remember the ubiquitous Crazy Frog and its ilking?

A new report from Informa Telecoms and Media predicts that by 2010, mobile music will be worth $11.3bn, with nearly $6.8bn worth of real tones - mobile phone ringtones that sound like a real song rather than digitized music - sold by the end of the decade. Ringtones of all varieties are expected to be worth $4.9bn this year, with almost all ringtones set to become real music by 2010

The voice ringtones market, which adds a voice channel to the polyphonic sound such that the actual song is sung when the ringtones plays are the next wave in the ringtones market. The interesting thing about ringtones is that they are truly an entertainment service and only marginally related to communication and messaging. Ringtones are the most popular type of content downloads to mobile phones. They are the second most popular nonvoice mobile data services after standard text messaging. The bulk of the sales should take place in Asia, with the region likely to account for more than half of global demand for mobile music services including ringtones

Ringtones remain the clear consumer favorite when it comes to mobile music offerings from online websites. The mobile entertainment market faces challenges which will hinder its long term prospects because of the ongoing tussle for a large slice of the revenues from mobile operators and record companies.

For the telecommunications sector, mobile entertainment -- music, games, gambling and video -- is seen as a key income stream as profit margins from voice and messaging services get squeezed from intense competition. Additionally, ringtones are categorized as a premium content service which commands a premium end user price. Consumers are paying between $0.50 and $5.00 per ringtones, with a typical price being $2.00. This is a substantial price premium compared to other mobile data services. Revenues from ringtones can therefore be significant

There's a direct link between the popularity of real music ringtones and the number of iPods. Soon there will be more mobile phones capable of playing music out there than iPods. so watch out ipod .The recording industry sees mobile content as a better bet than web music salest, the industry is starting to see mobile music as a whole revenue stream. And the ringtones market is expected to blossom further as consumers download entire songs on their phones through 3G technologies, and customized ring back tones enable callers to hear songs instead of conventional network ringing tones. The phenomenon is also opening up new distribution avenues for songwriters.

Whether you're sitting on the bus or walking down the street, you can now enjoy your music more conveniently. Your favorite tunes are only one touch away.

Furthermore, with web connectivity you can enjoy high quality music on the go; this is further pushing the boundaries of mobile music.

How-to spead-up your PC workings with reg cleaners

If you've had crashes on your personal computer, error messages or other set backs of your PC systems, you could need your computer reg. cleaned. What happening is that the Windows registry in your PC acts as a central information base, with information classified according to many data and / or criteria in successive layers or levels. Windows uses this filed data to set up the system for not only users but software applications and hardware issues.

If you ever experience slow times on your computer, error messages or other malfunctioning of your systems, you could need your registry cleaned. Decorating For the Cape Cod Home

Decorating your home based on its architectural style is the first step in creating balance and harmony. Learn how to use color and fabric to compliment your Cape Cod home.

The Cape Cod style home is known for its simple design, and architecture. Originating in the late 17th century in New England, and becoming very popular between the 1930's - 1950's the Cape Cod style home represents America in it's simpler times. It is usually a one to one-and-a-half story home with a chimney in the center, steep roof, symmetrical appearance with the door in the center, and multi-paned windows with shutters. When designing for a Cape Cod home, or giving your present home a Cape Cod feel just keep in mind where and when the design originated and this will make it simpler to design a theme for your home.

You have a lot of freedom with a Cape Cod home; it can be casual or elegant, and does not necessarily need to be nautical. You can use the periods from the 17th century all the way through to the 1950's, and decorate according to the styles used for those periods. From a casual rustic decor, from vintage 1920's with all it's elegance and style, to the primary colors used in the 1950's. You can also, think of the natural surroundings of the home's area. Imagine all the colors of the seaside, with it's peaceful blue water and sky, the subtle shades of the sand, the shells on the beach, seagulls in the air, watching the sunset at the end of a peaceful day. Carry this image with you, and pick five to seven colors with inspirations from these natural surroundings and your on your way to a balanced, peaceful, harmonious theme for your home. Perhaps robin egg blue, sunrise yellow, sunset red, cobalt grey, and creamy sand. Add splashes of these colors throughout your home with paint, accessories, and accent fabrics. The eye is drawn to color and texture. Adding splashes of color, and texture throughout a room creates balance and draws your eye around the room.

The key to creating a Cape Cod feel is in the color of the trim. White trim both inside and out is definitely a Cape Cod tradition. Paint your outside trim, your porch, and perhaps even the shutters white. Paint your inside trim, your mantel, and perhaps even the doors and cabinets white. This creates a clean, crisp look that will compliment most any color of walls and floors. Use a good quality gloss, or semi-gloss paint, to make cleaning your trim a breeze. If you want to go even further with your Cape Cod decor, then wood flooring is also a traditional Cape Cod feature. Wood flooring anchors a home by adding warmth and natural beauty, and modern technology, gives you many pricing and design options.

When it comes to furniture and accessories for your home, keep the more expensive furnishings, such as couches and other big ticket items neutral and accessorize with color. One of the simplest, ways to add color, balance and texture to your home is to experiment with different colored accent fabrics, in your curtains, decorative pillows, throws, runners, and rugs. Try to mix solids, prints, stripes, paisleys, checks, and floral fabrics throughout your home. This adds balance, and draws the eye around the room. Don't get carried away with this, or it could cause a chaotic feel. When deciding how to mix and match your decorative pillows and other accent fabrics, get ideas from manufactures at fabric stores. See how they incorporate large prints with small patterns, and geometrics with solids and do the same with your throw pillows, and other accent pieces. You can change the entire look of a room by simply changing the decorative pillows, runners, throws, curtains, or rugs.

Be proud of your Cape Cod style home; be creative and experiment with different colors, fabrics and styles. Take inspiration from your home's design and natural surroundings and you will be well on your way to creating an inviting, comfortable atmosphere throughout your entire home.

Buying a New Home, Paying For College and Starting a New Business Has Never Been So Easy!

A Government Grant is an aid program specially designed for helping those who have financial difficulties and cannot achieve, due to lack of finance, certain goals the government is interested to promote.

Government Grants Explained

Though there are many different government grants for a lot of purposes, as noted in the first paragraph, most of them concentrate on three goals: Helping people start their new business, helping people pay their way through school or college and helping people buy their first home.

Grants are provided by government agencies all over the country and at all levels of administration: There are Federal Government Grants, State Government Grants and Local Government Grants.

Each agency has its own requirements and though qualification is not as difficult as it may seem, the truth is that you need to be informed in order to successfully apply for a Government Grant without fear of being declined.

Grants amounts range from hundreds of dollars to tens of thousands of dollars. As the loan amount gets higher, it becomes increasingly difficult to qualify for. So you ought to know the requirements beforehand and apply as early as possible. It is known that most Government Grants are granted on a first arrived, first served basis, so timing is a very important issue not to be bypassed.

The smartest thing to do is, by analyzing grants requirements, to select the Government Grant you are best qualified for and concentrate on applying to it. There are certain grants restricted to citizens of certain states or towns. Others are restricted for those working on certain fields or for those coming from certain economic conditions.

Government Grants Purposes

The main help grants provide is focus on aiding those who want to buy a new house or rent. Real State agents are fully aware of these programs and should be questioned about them when their services are hired. Most applicants qualify for this kind of aid though they usually ignore it, so dont hesitate to ask your realtor about the government grant programs and ask them for help. Your real estate agent is more than capable of helping you fill all the paperwork so you can effectively apply for Government Grant.

Another use of Government Grants is paying for college. College fees have increased over the years and it has become increasingly difficult to afford college education, especially for those whose income has remained untouched. There are mainly federal grants and loans for those starting college and some, but not many, specific estate grants available too.

When it comes to starting a new business, government grants are of a great help for those who are working in a field the government is especially interested to develop. Government grants are mainly destined in this case to acquire machinery, supplies, pay for salaries for a certain period of time, etc. Generally speaking business government grants provide the finance needed for a business to get started and become independent. There are also grants for helping undertake international business transactions.

Do Your Research

Should you decide to apply for a Government Grant, there is a lot of information on the internet. Take your time to do a thorough research, take note of those grants you think you qualify for and contact the agencies to get further information and all the documentation you need to fill. If time is an issue there are some sites that provide access to all this information without having to search all over the net. They usually charge a small fee though, but worth every cent since youll be saving time and money.

How To Correct A Continually Rebooting Computer

When you sit down at your computer desk and press the power switch on your desktop, the last thing you want to experience is a continually rebooting computer.

There are a variety of causes that contribute to this problem, from something as simple as a stuck power button to a much more serious problem as your power supply slowly failing. Other causes for this problem may be overheating PC components, or viruses affecting your system.

Now, if youre like the rest of us, having a computer that reboots constantly is not our idea of a productive day. So how do you diagnose this problem and where do you start to to make corrections. Here are some common but often overlooked causes and solutions that will get your system running again.

First take a look at the power button and see if its stuck in the socket. If so, you may be able to simple tap the front of the case to release the button. In some cases, you may have to remove the system unit cover to get the button to return to the out position.

If you cannot stop the computer from rebooting by pressing the power button and releasing it, turn off the power switch in the back of the computer next to the power supply. If your power supply do not have a power switch, you will have to unplug the system from the wall outlet.

This must be done as soon as possible so that the constant rebooting will not damage components such as the hard drive. Constant rebooting also have the danger of power surges that can further damage larger components such as the motherboard.

Second you check your computers software by checking to be sure no virus or malware have not effected your hard drive. Virus and malware are small software that is downloaded along with other files that is designed to cause mischief.

To remove any viruses and malware, use a anti-virus program that will search your hard drive and remove these file quickly. These files can cause such damage as wiping your hard drive of all data or hijacking your web browser so you have no control over your online surfing.

If you find no malware on your computer, take a look at your BIOS to see if it has become unstable or has been changed. BIOS stands for Basic Input Output System and is a small program designed to check all components for proper operation when the computer is turned on.

If your BIOS has been changed or if youre not sure if its been changed, try to reset the BIOS settings to the default settings after you access the BIOS as the computer reboots.Once inside the BIOS, you should have the option to load your default settings, save the change, and reboot the computer.

However, there are times when a continually rebooting computer will not allow you to access the BIOS. You can then reset the BIOS by removing the system unit cover and locating the jumper on a three pin header.

You must consult your computer or motherboard manual to properly perform this procedure and it should be done as a last resort. Before making any changes to your BIOS, you should backup your BIOS if your computer reboots at long intervals.

After checking your computers software for its rebooting problem, you must check to be sure hardware is not at fault. This problem may exist because one of your memory modules are unseated from its socket . Memory modules are long, narrow sticks that attach to the motherboard.

Remove any static electricity from yourself, remove the system unit cover and check these memory modules to be sure they are secure. Check the connections to the hard drive and the connections leading from the power supply.

Power supply connectors should be checked if youve done work inside your computer recently. Power Supplies are known to slowly fail and lead to rebooting problems. There is no way to check an ailing power supply and this should be considered the problem as a last resort.

Following these steps will help you correct any computer that continually reboots itself. If no virus or malware is found, carefully and thoroughly check all connections. And if the problem still exist, the most likely cause would be the Power Supply.

A Guide to Purchase a Digital Camera

Photographic camera became a desired consumer item since it became handheld many years ago. As it became digital with no need for film processing, digital camera became even more popular and it is now considered one of the most wanted optical/electronic consumer products.

However buying a digital camera may be a bit difficult due to the many brands and models being offered. After all there are so many features, one has to be sure of his needs in picking the right digital camera. The following tips might of some help:

1 - Price range: It is recommended that you establish a price range you are willing to pay for your new digital camera. Prices can start from bellow a hundred up to thousands of dollars.

2 - Features: Within the price range previously established, check the features available in digital cameras. Make sure it will meet your requirements for your personal or professional goals. You may find features such as zoom, automatic functions, special effects, black & white images, video recording capability and others.

3 - Battery life: Depending upon the places you go, charging the camera`s battery may not be possible. So make sure the battery life will last long enough during your outdoor activities. Also it may be a good idea to have some extra rechargeable batteries, so that that you won`t have to stop using the camera, while the original batteries are being charged.

4 - Memory Storage: Digital photographs are stored in the camera`s memory. Most cameras have built in memory, but it will accept memory card as well, to increase its storage capability. Depending upon the picture resolution, a user can take hundreds of shots, before it exceeds the memory storage.

5 - Image Resolution: Also known as pixel resolution, this is one of the most talked about features in digital cameras. Although 2.0 mega pixels will deliver good photos for any personal and emailing purposes, nowadays digital cameras with 8.0 and above mega pixels (million of pixels) have become a standard feature. The higher the mega pixel resolution, the better it will look the pictures in larger prints. For those thinking about image enlargement, high mega pixel resolution is a must.

6 - Lens: Beware that the zoom feature may be of two kinds: optical and digital. Optical zoom relies on the lens magnification and delivers a good, sharp and clear image. On the other hand, digital zoom is the magnifying of the digital image and produces a less sharp, grainy image. So make sure that the digital camera offers some optical zoom capability. Also look for lens auto focus and image stabilization features.

7 - LCD: LCD screen is a standard feature in every digital camera, and it works for framing the shot beforehand and viewing it afterwards. Look for LCD screen size 2 inches and above for better clear images.

8 - Online Stores: Whenever looking for the best deals in digital cameras, take a look at some trusted internet stores. Since prices are posted in web sites, people may find very easy to compare them, and get the best deals. Also take a look at some auction sites, for new and used digital cameras.

Digital camera has definitely become a very popular consumer product. The easy of taking shots and emailing to friends have really made this item an absolute must-have kind of product. I guess one could say that people found in digital cameras the perfect tool to preserve special moments by sharing digital photos with loved ones, around this ever growing wide web world.

Great Ideas For Baby Shower Decorations

Being a party consultant can be a busy career. People who want help for special occasions such as birthdays, weddings, Christmas, and other holiday parties call me every time. A few of them even need help for baby shower decorations. Only a few people have enough experience for this type of party because baby showers are not celebrated as often as the annual occasions like Christmas or birthdays. Most people only go to one or two baby showers in their lifetime and some people never even get to attend one at all. This means that baby shower decorations would often require more planning than other kinds of parties.

Because baby showers are few and far between, people who need assistance for baby shower decorations have few expectations. People would also not expect to have an extravagant baby shower as oppose to what they would expect to have on more significant occasions like a graduation or a wedding. This gives you the freedom to come up with ideas on how elaborate you want a party to be, how much attention you need to devote to decorations, and the general theme for the baby shower. Light and tasteful baby shower decorations in my experience, work most of the time.

Other people on the other hand might consider this as an opportunity to explore innovative and creative ideas for baby shower decorations. Out of these world table settings elaborate ribbons, and custom made banners can make a baby shower special and memorable. If you want an extraordinary baby shower, seek advice from a party consultant such as myself are willing to serve you.

If your experience with decorations are limited only to standard decorations like ribbons and bows, napkins with cute prints of puppies, or cakes, and you feel the need to supplement your decorations dont hesitate to seek help. If you are having doubts with your baby shower decorations or if you want to make sure that your baby shower will be one f a kind, try consulting a party consultant. Perfect baby shower decorations are the key to hosting an exceptional baby shower.

Cork Flooring Floors From Generation to Generation

Learn about why cork flooring is an environmentally-responsible choice, where cork flooring comes from, how cork is processed to make flooring as well as other items, why cork flooring is an example of efficient production and contributes to sustainability.

More and more, consumers, retailers and wholesalers looking to source quality flooring are looking for balance. They all want to find practicality and look, measured with environmentally-responsible products and processes. Cork flooring, which has been around for centuries, makes striking this balance very easy indeed. Harvested from the cork oak, particularly in Portugal and Spain where the species flourishes, cork flooring stands as a shining example of a renewable source in flooring. The bark of the cork oak is harvested by hand. The process is heavily regulated to protect each individual tree from long-term harm. This means that the source for your cork floor, a flooring alternative that remains to be both decorative and practical for many reasons, is not endangered. Each cork oak tree is harvested on a nine-year rotation. Only mature cork oaks are harvested in order to protect future generations. For a green flooring option, cork flooring is worth your attention. And this is before any benefits of aesthetics and practical uses of cork flooring come into play!

How cork is processed for flooring and other products

Once the bark of the cork oak tree is removed with the use of hand-held implements, it is boiled. This allows the bark to become more malleable, easily shaped into a variety of forms. The versatility of cork as a material is thus demonstrated even as it is processed. The primary use for cork is that for which it is literally synonymous corks, for the wine industry, and other similar bottling industries. The cork is pressed into large sheets, and the corks are punched out. The remaining cork is ground, and further molded into large blocks. At this point, the cork is baked to further increase its durability. The cork is then cut to standardized sizes, and sorted according to color. The last stage is sealing these cut-down cork pieces with a layer of polyurethane or wax. The cork is then ready for use as flooring, or many other uses.

Nothing Goes to Waste

As you can see, cork flooring stands as a flooring option that is very concerned with the conservation of the species on numerous fronts. Each individual cork oak tree is allowed to reach maturity before it is harvested for its bark. Even then, the bark is not harvested for any length of time less than nine years, to allow appropriate re-growth and general health of the individual cork oak. When the cork oak bark is processed for flooring and other uses, all of the bark is used to the greatest extent possible. The stages which make it a durable flooring option only stands to make its use that much more robust. Increasing the life of the products made from cork means getting the best use out of the natural resource of the bark used to make it. With cork, and with cork flooring, consumers and sellers gain the benefits of quality flooring. Along with this, they also gain the knowledge that their choice in green flooring contributes to an ongoing effort in creating renewable products.

Accounting's Role In Business Decisions

The people, who make decisions in accounting, make it based on three categories. First, people who manage a business, second, the external people of a business who have a direct financial interest to a business, and third the people and organizations that have an indirect effect on a business. This applies to non profit organizations as well. Management refers to the group of people who are in charge for operating a business and for measuring up to the profitability and liquidity goals. If a business is extremely large, then the management will most often require more than one person, and the people are hired to perform their job. Managers need to answer important questions such as what was the companys net income, and if they have a substantial rate of return. Does the company have enough assets, and which products bring in the most money? When making a decision, managers usually follow a systematic approach. Even though larger businesses require a more concrete analysis, they follow a similar pattern to small businesses.

Financing a business: Financing for a company is critical, because they need that money to continue their operations. Here is a nice website to find out more information about financing a business. http://www.sba.gov/financing/

Investing in a business: Companies invest in their current assets so that it will make money for them in the future.

Producing goods or services: Operations and production management is responsible for developing and producing goods and services that the company can sell.

Marketing: Learning marketing and advertising skills so that they can distribute goods and services more efficiently.

Managing workers: Human resource management requires the hiring of qualified employees, and also paying them.

Providing information: The information management retrieves data about the company such as how much they made in the last month, and organize the information in a way so that it can be used. It also releases information to managers, and to important people outside the business.

Another group of individuals that needs knowledge in accounting is those you have a direct interest in the business, go figures. They use the information to analyze how a business is performing. Most businesses generally publish their financial report which shows how well they meet their profitability and liquidity goals. These statements display how well a company did in the past and probably most important, how well they will do in the future. However, many people outside the business also study the financial reports. They are the investors and the creditors.

The investors are the individuals that invest in a business and will keep a part of the ownership. They are concerned with their past success and failures, and also will like to know the potential earnings. A concrete analysis of the financial statement will help prospective investors base their decisions. Once they finish investing they must continue to study a business financial statement. Next, the creditors are the companies that lease money to businesses for short or long term needs. Creditors are the people that deliver money or provide services for companies in advanced before getting paid. Their main concern is whether a business will have the money to repay the money with interest in an approximate time. Some of the things they study before they make their decisions are a companys liquidity, cash flow, and profitability. Some examples of creditors are banks, mortgage companies, and insurance companies.

Over the years the shift of people who used accounting information has varied drastically. Now, it is heavily used by governmental agencies, and in matter of fact taxes is the main source of income for government. According to the rules and regulations of federal, state, or even local laws, individuals and companies are required to pay a variety of taxes. These include but are not limited to, sales tax, excise tax, social security tax, federal, state, payroll, and city income taxes. Each tax requires there own rules and regulations which can be very confusing at times. Reporting your taxes is a law and a very meticulous and tedious process. For example, The Internal Revenue Code contains over a thousand rules for delivering accounting information in federal income taxes. Also, most companies generally have to report to one or more regulating agencies in the United States. All corporations must answer to the Securities and Exchange Commission or SEC (To find out more information visit there website at http://www.sec.gov/). This is set up by the government to insure and protect the public by regulating the buying and selling of stocks. Companies that are listed on the Stock exchange must adhere to the rules and regulations.

Some other groups such as labor unions analyze the financial statements of corporations to help negotiate a contract. The income of a company plays a major role in forming these contracts. The individuals who give advice to investors and creditors such as brokers and financial analysts have an indirect financial interest in a business. The amount of inertest in the financial health of corporations has been growing by consumer groups such as customers and the public. They are also concerned about how the corporation will affect the social patterns of the environment and of the people that reside in that area. The Presidents Council of Economic Advisers and the Federal Reserve Board use accounting information to set economic policies and programs.

Its interesting to note that about thirty percent of the businesses in the United States consist of non profit organizations. Some examples of non profit organizations (NPO) include hospitals, and universities. Some well known non profit organizations include Red Cross, YMCA, Better Business Bureau, and WWF(World Wildlife Fund, was formerly in a lawsuit and won against WWE World Wrestling Entertainment, which was originally known as World Wrestling Federation). You may think that the managers of these organizations dont need to know their accounting skills but they do. They still have a budget and needs to raise money just like any other business. They raise money by collecting it from creditors, donors, and even investors. They also need to have a nice plan and to pay creditors back in an efficient manner, and they also have to follow the tax rules. So even though businesses and non profit organizations have different agendas they both generally follow the same basic rules.

Accounting is a systematic information system that measures, process, and communicate information, particularly financial. When an accountant is making a measurement they must answer four simple questions. First, what is being measured, second when should a measurement be made, third how much money should be placed on what is being measured, and last how the measurement should be classified. These four questions deal with the basic rules of accounting, and the answers help establish what accounting is and what it is not. Accountants in different fields challenge these questions every day, and therefore the answers are changing often so thats why its a good idea to keep to date with some of the trends.

About Xoops---Pack of Information for the Newbie

When it comes to the creation of a content rich, large, dynamic website, you are invariably faced with several myths---strong enough to make you drop your plan altogether. One such myth is: it requires you to be a smart programmer to upload and run a versatile website like this. WRONG!! Getting and running a dynamic website of your dream become piece of cake without hassle or lot of efforts, when you are armed with a tool like XOOPS.

If you are a web host, Xoops can be a great CMS tool for you to easily create dynamic websites. Xoops acts as an ideal tool for developing dynamic community websites---big or small. If you want to create personal weblog or corporate intranet site, or a content rich informative portal----Xoops can be the ultimate solution for getting them and running.

To install it in your server, simply what you need are: a PHP-capable web server such as Apache and a database preferably MySQL.

To keep with the spirit of the type of your website, you can use the software differently.

As for example, Lite XOOPS can be used to create a small size personal weblog or journal. The news module that comes inbuilt with its core framework is enough for the purpose.

For a medium size website you need to make use of the additional modules such as News, Forum, Download, Web Links etc. These modules will help in building up of a community and facilitate interaction among the members and with the visitors.

A feature rich e-commerce site however requires development of some of the customized modules. You can download them free or buy from the outside developers. In any case, Xoops uniform user management system will help you to seamlessly integrate these modules with the core system.

There are some must-to install modules which you need to use as add-ons for a stronger foundation along with the core framework of Xoops. These are:

Security module (antivirus and firewall), additional editors (word processors), a backup module to protect the data, and a few diagnostic modules for managing the site.

Here is a brief guide of the locations from where you can download these add-ons.

Security (the Protector Module v3.0)

Backup (DB Backup and Restore)

Editors (Frameworks and Xoopseditors v1.10)

Diagnostics (XoopsInfo v2.12)

In addition to the above mentioned modules which are essentially administrative in nature, you need to download more modules to support the features like news, photo galleries, links, forums, wikis, blogs and games.

Here is the last piece of advice relating to the selection of the version. We recommend the latest version which can be found by clicking Download Xoops in the Xoops .org Community menu. The latest version---2.0.16 has been released in March 2007.

Auto Repair Insurance: Extended Warranties Myths And Facts

How much insurance does one need? You have the big four: home, health, life, and car insurance. Then theres a second category, which starts getting a little hazy with credit card insurance, purchase protection plans, fraud insurance and more. Extended warranties, also called extended service contracts, or extended service policies fall into the mist of this second category.

Extended warranties are supposed to pay (in full or in part) for specified repairs for a specific period of time after the expiration of the factory warranty. They can be a great value. They can also be a significant waste of money. It gets quite foggy in the details. What exactly is covered? How long? How much? Are there hidden charges?

There are numerous extended warranty companies and an even wider variety of warranty packages available: silver, gold, platinum, platinum-plus, and a host of other confidence-building words. Whats the best plan, and are extended service contracts worth the money? Extended warranties, like life insurance policies, are a numbers game. Theyre a gamble. You pay $2500-$4500 for a 2 year, 100,000-mile protection plan and hope that you get at least that back in warranty repairs. The provider on the other hand, hopes to pay out less than it insured.

There are three major types of plan providers: The manufacturer, the dealership/third party, and third party providers. Each one has its assets and liabilities (discussed ahead).

What exactly is covered in an extended service plan? As mentioned above, whats covered depends on the package purchased. Some plans only cover the power train: the mechanical components of the engine, transmission, and rear-end. Others cover the power train plus some electrical components. Still others cover electrical, advanced electrical, and computer components. Some only cover whats listed in the contract. This is called a Stated or Named contract. This means that if its not stated, its not covered. Some cover bumper-to-bumper, similar to a manufacturer warranty, except trim pieces, upholstery, exterior components, cosmetic items, and a number of other exclusions.

Never before has the adage, The devils in the details, been so applicable.

Manufacturer Extended Plans:
Extended service plans from the manufacturer are the best in terms of coverage, convenience, and quality. Coverage is similar to the warranty while the vehicle was under its original factory warrantywith similar exclusions stated above. The billing is direct, meaning you dont have to pay out-of-pocket, except for a deductible, if applicable. Quality is great too, as an extended warranty from the manufacturer will only use factory parts. They also have money, so theres less risk of bankruptcy.

The down side of manufacturer extended service plans is that they are not cheap. These plans are generally the most expensive, require low mileage standards, and necessitate servicing your vehicle at a dealer for coverage.

Dealership/Third Party Plans:
Extended warranties from a dealership are actually from a third party insurer. These providers are generally reputable, but not always. However, if there is an issue (such as the warranty provider filing chapter 11, which is quite frequent in the extended service contract business), the dealer may step in to cover any repairs that would have been covered under the defunct plan. Also, claims are easier: billing is direct because the dealership has a working relationship with the provider, and there is usually agreement on price.

Some dealers set up their own internal extended warranty, which is honored by the selling dealer. This is rare, and should not be confused with a manufacturer warranty. Important: extended warranties are often passed off as manufacturer warranties. Theyre not. This is a sales trick. Also be aware that there is a significant mark up, as the dealership is merely acting as the middle man. Lastly, extended warranty companies often go bankrupt without warning.

Third Party Plans:
These plans are called third party plans because they are outside the responsibility of the manufacturer and the service center performing the repairs (unless theres a working relationship with a repair shop as stated above).

There are hundreds of extended service contract companies. Some have good reputations, some dont. Third party plans are frequently sold by used car dealers. You may also receive an official looking notification in the mail stating that your warranty is expiring, and directing you to call an 800 number ASAP. This is a marketing tactic by an independent warranty provider. Despite the official appearance of the postcard or envelope, its not from the manufacturer. Manufacturers do not send out reminders about warranty expirations.

Given the wide-variety of third party plans there are numerous red flags.

1) Claims: Extended warranty companies will be quick to tell you that filing claims is easy, and that the service center gets paid immediately via a credit card. Thus, theres no out-of-pocket expense for you. However, the warranty company cant dictate a service centers policies. Some service centers will only accept payment from the repair customer. Thus the burden is on the repair customer to fill out the forms, contact their warranty company, and await reimbursement via check, which can take 2-8 weeks.

It is the service centers responsibility to contact the extended warranty company to let them know whats wrong with the vehicle and to check coverage. This process can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 20 days, sometimes more, depending on the degree of repairs and especially the amount. (See $1000 and Adjusters ahead)

Service centers and extended warranty companies frequently battle over the fair price of repairs. Many repair shops no longer negotiate, and just state the price, leaving the contract holder (i.e., the service customer) responsible for the difference.

2) Rentals: Rental coverage is a great benefit. However, there are fixed rates and time limits. In other words, the warranty company is not going to pay to have you drive a Mercedes-Benz, even if you drive a Benz. Rental allowances range from $25 to $35 per day. Also, rental coverage is based on the number of hours it takes to repair the vehicle, NOT how long your car has been at the shop.

3) $1000 and Adjusters: Repairs that approach $1000, or that require a significant amount of work, will be cause for the warranty company to call in an adjuster to confirm the diagnosis. This will delay the repairs by a minimum of 24-48 hours. It may cost you additional money when an adjuster is involved. You may be charged to have your vehicle pulled back into the shop for inspection, as well as for the time spent with the adjuster.

4) Tear-down Charges: In many cases, an extended warranty company will require that a particular component be taken apart for inspection to determine if the repair is indeed needed and covered. This puts the service customer in a very awkward position. The customer will have to authorize potentially hundreds of dollars of tear-down expense in the hopes that the repair is covered. If its not, the customer is out the hundreds in tear-down PLUS the actual repair. This does happen!

Common Myths:

1) "Extended warranties cover maintenance services and brake work."

No. Extended warranty plans do not cover maintenance or wearable items. Brake pads and rotors are wearable parts. Maintenance such as coolant, brake and transmission flushes, tune-ups, services, oil changes, bulbs, wipers, and more are not covered.

2) "They told me its bumper-to-bumper, so it covers everything right?"

Wrong. Not even a factory warranty covers everything. When pitching the sale for the extended warranty, one is very often lead to believe that he or she will have nothing to worry about. This is just not true on so many levels. For example, if your bumper falls off its not covered.

3) "I dont have to pay anything, right?"

Wrong. Despite the claims of 100% coverage, there are many factors involved. The labor rates, labor hours, diagnostic times, parts prices, and machine work are just a few items that often conflict with a service centers policies. Some extended contracts only pay a maximum of $55 per hour, and only allow one half hour for diagnostic time. This is generally unacceptable to the service center, as labor rates have skyrocketed to over $100 per hour at many dealerships, and average $75 at local shops. Moreover, with the complexity of todays vehicles, diagnostic time is at a premium. The customer pays the difference.

4) "If I have an expensive problem, I can just purchase an extended service contract."

Its unethical, but its an option many attempt. However, most service contracts have a minimum time requirement before the first claim can be filed: usually three months. Also, many contracts require that your vehicle be inspected by a service center to check for pre-existing conditionsjust like life insurance.

5) "My contract lasts up to 100,000 miles."

Only if the time limit doesnt run out first. All extended warranty plans have a time limit. For example, a typical contract will state that the vehicle is covered for two years or 100,000 miles, which ever comes first. During the sales pitch, however, the emphasis will be on the 100,000 miles, not the time.

6) "If my car breaks, it gets fixed like new."
Actually, depending on the contract, an extended warranty company can insist on installing remanufactured or even used parts.

Items commonly not covered by extended warranties:
Any component with a pre-existing condition
Any component related to a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB)
Many components that has been updated by the manufacturer
Extra components necessary due to manufacturer updates to complete the repair
Trim pieces: molding, cup holders, dashboard, console, body parts, glass
Many accessories: radios, DVD players, TVs
Many expensive electronics: climate control units, navigation assemblies

Service contract positives:
Some service contracts are transferable, and may thus increase the resale value of a vehicle. Many come with trip interruption reimbursement, towing and 24-hour road side. Some plans can also be financed, or have E-Z Pay Plans. Others offer a money-back guarantee.

What should you do?
Youll get lots of advice about doing the research, comparing plans, and reading the fine print. This is all sound advice. But what about doing the math?

Lets say a plan costs $2500 for 2 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. To break even youll need a minimum of $1250 per year in covered repairs, excluding regular maintenance. Remember covered is the vital word here.

Another way to break it down is to anticipate having to pay $104.17 per month over the next two years in covered repairs. Do you want to take that bet?

What could happen?
You could double your money or more in repair work. You could conceivably get a new engine and transmission (or used ones anyway). You could also easily spend $2500 for a service contract, and still have to pay another $2500 for repairs, which for a variety of reasons, were not covered under your plan. Now youre out $5000.

Alternatively, you could keep the initial $2500. In many ways all an extended warranty does is prepay for repairs. You could stick the money in the bank and collect interest. Then you could withdraw the money for repairs as needed.

Another consideration thats rarely discussed is the cause of the problems. Many car repairs problems are the result of wear and tear, neglected maintenance, physical damage, or acts of Godsuch as flood damage. None of this is covered. The gamble only covers failed components.

If the vehicle youre driving does cost $2500 to $4500 in repairs due to outright failed components, is it a vehicle you even want to consider keeping? A vehicle that needs this kind of repair work due to mechanical, electrical, or computer failures may not be worth it. The $2500-$4500 would be better spent on an upgrade to a quality vehicle rather than insuring a lemon.

Theres no question that auto repair is expensive, and even quality cars break from time to time. But do they breakdown to the tune of $2500-$4500? Thats a hefty bet on a possibility.

Terence OHara from the Washington Post makes an excellent assessment about extended warranties in general. He writes:

extended warranties play upon a basic human trait to avoid loss, even if it means sacrificing a possible future gainthe gain is all the other things of value that a consumer could buy with the money that was spent on a warranty

Whats the best plan?
Money in your bank account!

Risk Reversal - Make It EASY For Your Customers To Buy From You

To remove any obstacle that stands in the way of a sale. Most of us has at one time or another been ripped off by some unscrupulous individual or a business of dubious character. Because of this negative experience, we've become fearful of it happening again and so we're very careful about with whom we do business.

Your prospects are no different. They fear being taken in some way. This fear often paralyzes them from making a buying decision. If the fear is too strong, they simply run for cover and avoid the potential pain.

Your job as a marketer is to remove all the obstacles that may be stopping people from buying. By eliminating, or at least significantly minimizing all the hurdles, you are in effect eliminating or reducing the effect of a prospect's objections.

People want to buy. They want to say yes. They desire what you offer. But the fear can often curtail even a strong impulse to buy.

You can overcome this problem and improve your sales dramatically by removing the risk from your prospect/customer and assuming the risk yourself. In taking the risk away from your prospect, you make it easier for him to buy. And the less the prospect feels he is at risk, the more likely he is to want to do business with you.

Here Are A Few Examples:

You can remove the risk by offering a strong, money-back guarantee. Guarantees are a great way to relieve buyer anxiety and increase sales. The stronger the guarantee -- the more effective it is. A 90 day guarantee will usually produce more sales than a 30 day guarantee, and a one year guarantee is better than 90 days. The longer and stronger your guarantee, the more effective it will be in improving sales.

Another way to apply the risk-reversal principal is to offer a payment plan instead of requiring full payment up front. Three monthly payments of $34 is a safer bet than one payment of $100 for your customer, because he actually gets to try out your product before having committed the full amount for it. As a vendor, you're assuming the risk - you're assuming you'll collect on all three payments.

A third example is to accept a post-dated check as payment. You're assuming the risk because the buyer gets full advantage of the product for free, until the check is redeemable. There's always the risk that you've accepted a bad check, but from the buyers point of view, you must have a solid product that delivers what you say to make such an offer.

How?

You can implement this strategy by improving your existing guarantee. Extend the duration or remove unnecessary restrictions that weaken your guarantee. The more hassle-free you can make - the better.

If you can create a guarantee that is far superior to that offered by your competition, you'll capture more sales and you'll baffle them in the process! They'll be astounded at your audacity, but more customers will flock to you because of it.

Most buyers today have come to expect guarantees, so you might as well offer the best guarantee in the business. Make your guarantee a prominent part of all your marketing communications. Guarantees make it easier to nudge an undecided prospect in your favor.

The interesting thing about guarantees is that with a solid product or service, you'll rarely be called on to honor your guarantee anyway. People tend to relax and forget about it. The longer a guarantee, the more likely they'll leave it for later, which means they'll forget and never pursue it. This is no excuse for putting out products of suspect quality, it's merely an interesting revelation about human nature. So, you might as well make it the most power-packed guarantee in the marketplace and enjoy additional sales because of it!

One final note; in order to start making more sales and build your business empire you must become an avid student of lead generation and marketing strategy the high-payoff items necessary for you to magnetically attact new clients to skyrocket your profits.

Bringing Home Baby Ease the Transition

You welcomed your baby or babies into the world and are returning home to either begin or to continue the journey of motherhood. Your new life will be filled with constant love and laughter, daily multitasking and new activities. It will also entail an ongoing education process as you become adept with your new role and responsibilities.

Although you cannot completely prepare for your new family or how you will respond to your newborns disposition and eating and sleeping schedules, there are certain steps you can take to ease the transition of bringing home baby. Consider the following ideas when preparing for your babys arrival:

Baby

Pre-wash baby clothes, towels and other baby items such as sheets and blankets.

Stock up on diapers and wipes.

Stock up on formula (if you are not nursing) and wash bottles for formula or breast milk.

Setup the nursery.

Install the car seat in your vehicle.

Assemble baby equipment such as strollers, swings, bassinets and cribs.

Research membership options for moms clubs and parenting groups even if you are a working mother.

Pack a diaper bag with diapers, wipes, bibs, change of clothes and optional items such as blankets, pacifiers, small toys, hand sanitizers and energy bars or snacks for mom.

Parents

Buy stamps and stationery for Thank You letters.

Type labels for birth announcements.

Record your favorite TV shows or movies so you have something to watch when you are up late at night or early in the morning.

Install your digital camera software and setup your computer and email to send and save photos or home movies.

Create a list of contact numbers for your estate planning, doctors (including pediatrician) birth certificate registration, health insurance and human resource contacts at your employer.

Purchase a journal for yourself and a notebook or clipboard for a newborn log to track feeding, sleeping and changing habits.

Family

Coordinate family visits and work through the details before you arrive home with baby.

Notify your older childrens school about your impending birth or new baby so teachers can be supportive and be aware of any changes in your childrens behavior.

Create an account with an on-line grocer such as Safeway.com or PeaPod.com. Save your selections so all you have to do is schedule your delivery when you return home. Be sure to order extra laundry detergent, toilet paper and home spa items such as bath salts and bubbles.

Interview babysitters and tentatively schedule dates to assist with older children and to help with laundry or errands.

Purchase supplies for arts & crafts projects for older children.

Stock the freezer with pre-made meals.

If you belong to a moms club, social or networking group, inquire about a mommy meal program to see if you can have meals delivered to your home by fellow moms.

8 Steps To Buying A Home With Poor Credit And No Money Down

8 STEPS TO BUYING A HOME WITH POOR CREDIT AND NO MONEY DOWN

1. Get a copy of your credit report.

You can do this yourself or you can have a Broker check it. Remember there are three bureaus, so check all three. Some Brokers will only pull one unless you ask for three. If they won't pull all three, go elsewhere or pull them your self. Ideally, you want a "Tri-Merge" report which merges all three so as to remove duplicate items while still showing all three scores. Your " Credit Score" is the middle of the three. Try http://www.annualcreditreport.com for a free report. At this writing, they don't cover the whole country but will soon. You can also go directly to the bureaus. The three bureaus web addresses are http://www.equifax.com http://www.experian.com and http://www.transunion.com They may charge a fee or offer the "free" report as part of a credit watch service, which is probably a service you may want as you rebuild your credit.

2. Study the report for accuracy and have any errors corrected. You can do this through each bureau's website, the Broker's credit reporting agency. There may be a charge, but it's well worth it. Correcting derogatory errors on a report can quickly raise your score, qualifying you for higher LTV loans and lower your interest rate. This could save you tens of thousands of dollars over the life of the loan. A Broker's credit reporting agency can also help.

3. Start your road to better credit now. You want to improve it as much as possible so as to refinance as soon as possible. You might even see your score improve before you find just the right house and a package is sent to underwriting. Sometimes an improvement of only a few points will put you into a better category with a higher LTV and/or a lower rate. Ask the Broker what the lender used as your score for the loan at the time of underwriting and if that qualifies you for a lower rate. If you've done your research and found an honest, qualified Broker they will try to lower your rate below their original estimate.

4. Research your area through referrals, advertising and interviews to find a Mortgage Broker that specializes in sub-prime (less than perfect credit) mortgages that you feel comfortable with. If you don't intend on pulling your own credit, this will now become your first step in this process.

5. Discuss your situation in detail with the broker including:

a. Your credit
b. Your Rental payment history and proof of payments
c. Your Employment situation and history
d. The fact that you want a straight zero down loan or one with a seller 2nd or gift of equity with closing costs financed into the loan
e. How much house you qualify for
f. What estimated closing costs will be through a GFE
g. Obtain a Pre-Qualification

6. Find a Realtor who isn't afraid to work with someone who wants to do 100% loan with closing costs financed into the loan. Your Broker may know one. If they balk or seem hesitant, go find someone else.

7. Search the market thoroughly. Be sure the realtor is showing you homes where the seller's situation fits with your needs. This might include 1) Low Mortgage balance, 2) Good value so the appraised value will be above their asking price and 3) A seller that is motivated.

8. Make an offer (multiples if needed) on a home on your terms until you get one accepted and close your home as soon as possible before rates go up.

Have a celebration with your significant other or family. You've earned it. Enjoy your new life as a homeowner while you make all those little improvements necessary to build equity and improve your home's value for the future appraisal relating to a sale or refinance, all the while improving your credit score.

The Link Between Your Credit History and Your Insurance Premium

Did you know your credit history and score could have a tremendous impact on your ability to obtain insurance and how much you pay for it? Many consumers are not aware of this link and because of it they are often in for quite a surprise when the time comes to take out a new insurance policy.

Insurance carriers are becomingly increasingly aware that a tendency to pay other bills late may mean that you will pay your insurance premiums late as well. As a result, more and more carriers are opting to run your credit history before providing a quote. In some cases, a poor credit rating may mean you pay more for your insurance while in other cases it could mean you may not be able to obtain insurance at all.

Just how bad does your credit have to be to interfere with your ability to obtain insurance? It really depends on the guidelines used by that individual insurance company; however, in some cases, missing just as few as two credit card payments could mean you might have problems. In some instances, missing just two payments could mean you premium might be doubled.

You are not necessarily exempt from this type of problem even if youve been with the company for a long period of time or if youve had a good history in terms of losses, either. Some consumers have been rudely surprised to learn their policy has been cancelled due to credit score problems even though they had previously had a long relationship with their insurance carrier.

How can insurance companies do this, you might ask. As previously stated one reason is that many companies feel that you may have an increased tendency to pay your premiums late. Other companies justify the practice on the basis that if youre irresponsible with money you may also be irresponsible with other aspects of your life. Some statistics serve to back up this theory, indicating the thought that individuals with poor money management skills also handle other areas of their life with less responsibility, such as driving or even taking care of their home.

Of course this doesnt take into consideration the number of people who have a poor credit score due to the fact they have experienced financial difficulties rather than possess poor money management skills.

Is there anything you can do about this practice? Not really. If you have been with the company for a long period of time, you could try protesting it, but your chances of winning arent very good.

Ideally, its best to try to get your credit score in shape by running it yourself and making sure there are no errors on there to drag down your score. Then concentrate on raising it by paying down other debts and paying your bills on time. You may have to live with a higher premium for awhile but the good news is that when your credit score starts to rise your insurance premiums should go down.

Kids And Energy

Im not sure why, maybe because its summer, Im getting a lot of questions and stories about kids and energy. Ill put them all under that broad category but there have been several different subcategories discussed: kids and ADHD, kids and anger management, and kids and computers.

Kids and ADHD

Lets start with kids and ADHD. There seems to be a big trend here in the US of drugging our children so they can control their behavior in school. I am NOT in favor of this practice.

Why is there such an epidemic of ADHD diagnoses in our children? I dont want to oversimplify but I believe one reason is that our children dont have the opportunities they had in previous generations to run around and expend their energy.

In years past, kids got to play in the parks, in the streets and in their own yards. Today, that happens less and less. Parents are too afraid to allow their children to be outside unsupervised, and rightly so! There are predators out there who would do your children harm. However, kids still need to expend their energy, somehow.

So, many times the activities available to them at home are sedentary, such as playing video games, watching television, talking on their cell phones or using the home computer. None of this provides opportunity to release energy, unless your children are like my niece who paces vigorously while talking on the phone.

Then we send them to school and expect them to sit down and be quiet. In addition, many schools are reducing the amount of physical education time for our kids and Ive even seen recently that some schools forbid children to run at recess or use certain playground equipment because they fear of physical injury lawsuit. Is it any wonder our children are having difficulty?

Now I know there are parents and teachers out there who have stories of children who have been helped immensely by the addition of Ritalin, Adderall, Concerta or Dexedrine to their daily diet. If you know a child who is being helped by his or her medication, Im not saying to discontinue it but for every child who is being helped, I believe there are at least three others who are still exhibiting all the ADHD behavior the medication was designed to reduce.

There have been studies done on placebo medications that show that in double blind studies, when neither the patient nor the doctor knew whether the patient was getting the actual drug or the placebo, the ones getting the placebo actually did better. Is it possible there is a placebo effect with some children?

If your child displays what you or the teachers believe is an excessive amount of energy, do your best to create situations where that child can expend energy. I have two boys who could both have been diagnosed with ADHD as children. They were very physical. Luckily, I lived in the country during a time when parents sent their kids out the door to simply play. I also spent a lot of my spare time running them around to different athletic eventsYMCA soccer, wrestling, flag football, T-ball, basketball, you get the idea. This definitely helps.

Kids and Anger Management

I spoke with a woman over the weekend whose son is 10 years-old and she says has anger management issues. We didnt really get into his specific behaviors but it caused me to reflect on some inherent differences between males and females.

I think that from very early on, boys and girls deal with their anger differently. As a general rule, girls need to talk about it to feel better, while boys need to work it out physically.

So if you have daughters, you want to teach them verbal skills to be able to work out their frustrations but with boys, you will need to provide opportunities for them to work out their anger physicallymaybe with a punching bag, racquetball, running, or martial arts. The list of possibilities is truly endless but dont expect your boys to talk about it, at least not until theyve had the opportunity to release the anger in a safe physical manner.

Kids and Computers

This week, a mother contacted me about her child disobeying her limits with the home computer and sneaking time beyond her allowed limit.

In this situation, the mother had a need to protect and nurture her child. She wants to be able to loosely supervise her daughters time on the computer to possibly prevent her from falling prey to adults who victimize children by finding their victims on the Internet. She also wants to support her childs need for physical activity so she restricts her computer usage and encourage outside physical activities instead. Is this mother wrong? Absolutely not.

Her daughter, on the other hand, has a desire to be on the computer. All her friends are on there and want to know why she isnt. They dont have limits while this girl does. This girl is quite accomplished on the computer and can build website pages for her friends. She also has a high need for freedom and doesnt like being restricted and the computer is plain fun to her. She gets her love & belonging, power, freedom and fun needs met with the computer. Is she wrong? Absolutely not.

How does it get resolved? I think the way to resolve this issue is for the mother and daughter to sit down and talk about what each other needs and wants in the situation. If the child can convince her mother that she has the skills and knowledge necessary to protect herself from predators and she agrees to engage in other healthy activities each day, then her mother could relax her restriction on the amount of time she has on the computer.

In this case, and many others like it, the daughter wouldnt be able to meet her freedom need with the computer if there wasnt a rule to break. Sometimes we create the very behavior we are trying to stop with the rules we make. When a person has a high need for freedom, they will inevitably break the rules, particularly the ones they dont like or that dont make sense.

Why It's OK to Buy into Online Marketing Scams

I am sure that each and every one of you have gotten some kind of email or went to a website where you were promised instant riches if you purchased their product. I am a born sucker, I am not a skeptic. Whenever I read a good sales page, I get really excited at how rich I could become.

I don't ask 'What's the catch?' I instead ask 'Where do I sign?'

This lack of skepticism has lost me a lot of money, yet at the same time it has made me some money and also produced some great ideas. There are a lot of get rich quick scams on the Internet, but there are also alot of great products out there as well.

How can I can I tell the difference between a great Online marketing product and a poor one?

Well, in truth, you can't unless you buy it and try it. Your own personal opinion is what determines if the product is useful or not.

You can try doing a Google search on the product you are interested in followed by the word scam or review, to see others opinions of the product. This will give you a basic idea of other people opinions.

The review search you will show you biased people giving favourable reviews in order to sell the product through their affiliate link.

The scam search you will bring you to people who more than likely did not understand the product to begin with.

This is why you need to use your instinct. If you feel something may be a scam, then don't buy it. The only times I would suggest going against this rule is when a money back guarantee is offered and is backed by a trusted source, such as ClickBank. I would suggest sending an email to the company you are interested in purchasing from and ask them to explain their return policy. If they respond that same day or the next day chances are you are dealing with a reputable company (that's just my opinion though).

I will try anything once with Internet marketing, that is why I have not problem buying into questionable products as long as they have a good return policy and respond to emails quickly. i have found that sometimes i learn more from scam products than I do from legitimate products. How is that possible? I like to take these questionable products and use them as template for any products I am creating. I take the good points and integrate them into my products and then look at the poor points and us them as tool to benchmark what I should not do.

If you are going to be successful at making money online you have to take down your skeptical shield and learn to try everything once in order to learn something

Before You Apply, Compare

If you are considering applying for a credit card, make sure before you apply you compare the interest rates available. There are so many credit card companies willing to take your business make sure you shop yourself around first.

The interest rates that you qualify for will depend on your credit worthiness. This simply means what type of risk are you to the credit card company. Do you pay your bills on time; are you making enough money to cover your outstanding credit responsibilities?

If you are regularly late or considered what the industry refers to as a "slow pay", your interest rates are going to be higher. That means, if they have a low teaser interest rate, you are not going to qualify for it. They mean it when they say, "not all applicants will qualify for the lowest rates." On the other hand, if your credit reports shows that you are a good risk, paying on time consistently and are not over extended, you will definitely qualify for the introductory rates.

If you have a good credit rating, you have the upper hand on negotiating with credit card companies for the best available interest rates. If your credit is less than stellar, you may not get the lowest rate available but it is just as important to comparison shop before you accept an offer.

Remember when you are comparing interest rates do not let every company you are speaking with run a credit report. Make sure you specifically ask them if they are running a full credit report. If they say "yes," tell them no. Having a bunch of credit request showing on your report makes your credit score go down dramatically.

Once you have compared interest and you have narrowed it down to one or two cards, make sure you understand the terms of the offered interest rates. For instance, you might secure an interest rate at 8.99%, what happens if you are late? Usually the interest rate goes up dramatically.

Being late once, and they do not care if it is by two hours, may raise your rate to about 15%. Still not a horrible rate but it sure is not as good as your initial rate. Ask them what happens if you are late more than once. Most companies have policy in effect that if you are late more that once in a twelve-month period, they will raise your rate so high you won't believe it. Many get up there into the 30% bracket.

So, when you are comparing interest rates for credit cards, use your credit score to secure the very best rate you can possible get. Once you have it secured, make sure you always pay on time. Make sure you read and understand all terms and conditions of the card. By getting the best rate possible, you can literately save yourself hundreds of dollars a year.

Notebook As Indispensable Tool For Modern Executives

The significance of notebooks or laptops is increasingly growing in the modern life. The modern-day business has witnessed a phenomenal turn-around at the present moment. Given the hectic schedules and jam-packed daily routines, it has become virtually impossible for almost anyone to perform their activities being rooted to one particular place or work-station. The frequent movements of numerous businessmen from place to another have made them to carry a notebook or laptop in order to perform their business activities, even during traveling.

Notebook refers to a light-weight personal computer which is small in size and conveniently portable. A notebook is usually battery or AC operated personal computer smaller than a briefcase, which can be easily used and carried along in places such as airplane flights, libraries, temporary offices, and at meetings. A notebook is famously known as `Laptop` which typically weighs less than 7 pounds (3 kg) and is about 3 inches in thickness. Some renowned brands associated with the manufacturing of notebooks are IBM, Apple, Sony, Dell, Toshiba, and Hewlett-Packard among others.

One of the most remarkable differences between a notebook and personal computer is the `Display Screen` - notebook computers use a variety of technologies known as `Flat-panel technologies` to produce a light-weight and non-bulky display screen. The display screen of many notebooks is limited to VGA resolution. However, notebook computers have one minor drawback - the notebook monitors that use `Active-matrix Screens` and produce very sharp images, do not refresh as quickly as the full-size monitors of desktop computers.

When it comes to the computing power, the contemporary notebooks are almost equivalent to the personal desktop computers. Typically, the notebooks computers come with a battery pack which enables you to run them without plugging them in. However, their batteries require recharging at a regular interval. Besides, the laptops have the same CPUs, memory capacity and, disk drives as incase of personal desktop computers. Not surprisingly, the laptop computers or notebooks, as they say it, are much more expensive than their bulky counterparts.

Notebooks or Laptops are manufactured in different designs, sizes, weights and memory capacities. The following are some of the main categories of notebook computers which are produced by some recognized companies:

Ultra-portables:

Ultra-portables are laptops with screen-size less than 12 inches and weight of less than 4 pounds (1.7 kg) These laptops do not normally have full-size keyboards. Primarily, it is the business travelers who need ultra-portables because they are small and light. Ultra-portable are very expensive, have extendable battery, power-saving CPUs and integrated graphics.

Thin & Lights:

This breed of laptops, by and large, weighs between 4 and 6 pounds (1.8 and 2.8 kg) and with a screen-size of 12 to 14 inches. Notebooks of this category are manufactured by Sony, Apple Computer and Dell among others.

Medium-sized Laptops:

Medium-sized laptops usually have a screen-size of 14 to 16 inches and a weight of around 7 to 9 pounds (3 to 4 kg). The length and width of these medium-size laptops are generally decided by their screen-size. However, these medium-sized notebooks have relatively less computing power due to their smaller dimensions and longer battery life.

Desktop Replacement Computers:

This edition of notebook computers is chiefly used in a fixed location and not easily portable due to their heavy weight and bulky size. Their screen-size typically measures from 17 to 20 inches. Moreover, desktop replacement computers have limited battery life barely exceeding 3 hours. This is because the hardware is not optimized for efficient power usage.

Notebooks have really become very popular computer hardware. Its portability and affordable prices seem to be very attractive to business executives, and everyone else, who seem to be on the move all the time. As businesses become more globalized, notebooks become a must-have tool item for everyone who wants to be successful.
